​EMERGENCY TRANSPORT ROMA BULGARIA

In 2023 we reported on the appalling conditions in which a large part of the Roma in Bulgaria find themselves. Many people want to work, but cannot because they do not get a work permit because they do not have an address. For many, the situation has not changed in the past year. They are in a vicious circle.

As reported in a previous newsletter, we will also set up an emergency transport again in 2024.
Of course, we as a Foundation cannot do this alone. We need help for that!

A short summary:

In the hills outside the city in the Yambol region, Roma live who have been evicted from their apartments and homes that were declared uninhabitable and onto the street. Many are now forced to live on the street, or in self-built huts, made of planks and blankets, or sometimes a kind of shed. There is no new housing for them.

Because there are no street names here, people have no address, and therefore no registration number, and therefore cannot work and are therefore not entitled to benefits, nor are they entitled to school or medical facilities.
They live on food they get from garbage and sometimes get money for things they get from the dump, such as plastic bottles.

And there are more people living in similarly poor conditions.
